Which certifications can I earn through this program?
All members will earn the Smart Start Certificate by completing the program. Depending on your WorkKeys assessment score, you can earn a Smart Start Credential and the National Career Readiness Certificate. You will also have the opportunity to earn a ServSafe Food Handler Certificate.

How much can I earn through this program?
Members receive an increasing stipend over the 10 weeks of the program which total $1,275. Members are also eligible to receive a savings match up to $500.

How often are trainings held?
We hold trainings four times a year. For 2020, training cohorts are scheduled to begin on January 20, April 13, July 13 and October 5.

How many people are accepted into each training?
We aim for each cohort to consist of 12 to 14 young adults between the ages of 18 and 24.

What happens after the 10-week training?
During the program, you develop your plan for after graduation—that might include one or more of the following: a paid internship, regular employment, or further education.
Financial awards are offered to graduates who maintain employment or pursue their education after graduation.

How long is the training program?
The training program lasts 10 weeks. Members are required to be onsite Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

What are the eligibility requirements?

  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 24.
  • Must be willing to commit to 10 weeks of training (Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the facility.
  • Must have childcare arrangements, if applicable.

Is there an application fee or a cost to participate?
There is no application fee. There is no cost to participate.

Am I eligible to apply to this program if I have criminal record?
Yes.

Can I complete part of the 10-week training?
No. In order to graduate, you must complete the entire training program.

Where is the training held?
Our building, which houses the classrooms and Refill Cafe, is located at 136 South Adams Street.

What is Refill Cafe?
Refill Cafe is our restaurant and is open to the public for lunch every weekday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Our classrooms and office space are located above Refill Cafe on the second floor.

What happens after I attend the informational session or submit my interest form?
Every applicant must participate in an in-person interview. Those interested can sign up for an interview on the day of the informational session or a Refill Jackson Initiative staff member will contact the applicant to set up an in-person interview.  Twelve – sixteen members will be selected for each cohort after all interviews have been completed.
