Refill Jackson AmeriCorps VISTA Project

The Refill Jackson Initiative AmeriCorps VISTA project is a capacity building opportunity engaging citizens in service to the West Jackson community. RJI VISTAs are building RJI’s recruitment efforts for our Workforce Training Cohort, building our alumni network so we can continue to serve Opportunity Youth entering the workforce, and telling our story to potential participants, partners, stakeholders, and the community at large. AmeriCorps VISTA core principles are poverty alleviation, capacity building, sustainable solutions, and community empowerment.

RJI has 2 VISTA positions in 2024 to advance the shared mission of fighting poverty and improving quality of life for Jacksonians. VISTA members dedicate one year of full-time national service to build RJI’s capacity to effectively engage youth that are disconnected from school and work in workforce training and wraparound services to ensure our participants are ready to get and keep a job right here in Jackson. Our VISTA members extend and deepen community engagement efforts, and serve as a conduit to connect community partner organizations, employers, and Opportunity Youth to self-sustaining careers.
RJI has 2 current VISTA positions: a Fundraising and Communications VISTA for 2024-2025, and an Alumni and Recruitment VISTA position for 2025. Open Position Descriptions and How to Apply are listed on our “Work at Refill” page linked here.

VISTA is an AmeriCorps national service opportunity – AmeriCorps is the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. AmeriCorps provides opportunities for Americans of all backgrounds to serve their country, address the nation’s pressing challenges, improve lives and community, and strengthen civic engagement. To serve as an AmeriCorps member, participants must be 18 or older, be a US citizen, US national, or lawful permanent resident, and have a high school diploma, GED, or agree to work toward one while serving in AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps VISTA members receive serval benefits during their term of service, including a modest bi-weekly living allowance, healthcare benefits, childcare assistance, and professional development training. Upon completion of their term of service, VISTAs receive non-competitive eligibility for employment in the federal government, and a choice between a Segal Education Award (valued at approximately $7,395) or a $1,800 cash stipend.
